Umbrella Conservation Project Covering Five Wild Animal Species
The wildlife wing of the Pune forest department proposed an umbrella conservation project covering five wild animal species namely wolf, jackal, fox, civet and hyena. Together, these species are called 'Mizo-Carnivorous' by the forest department. The conservation plan has been submitted to the forest head office.
SBI and India Exim Bank Bridge Trade Financing Gaps in Africa
The State Bank of India and the India Exim Bank are helping businesses in African countries to fill the gap in trade finance, the South African heads of the two organisations said at the India Entrepreneurs Forum (IEF).
The event was initiated by Consul General of India Mahesh Kumar who said that it is the first of a series of ongoing engagements with the IEF.

Jio Financial and BlackRock Form Joint Ventures for Mutual Funds
On October 28, 2024, Jio Financial Services Ltd (JFSL) and BlackRock Inc. officially announced the incorporation of two joint venture companies, Jio BlackRock Asset Management Private Limited and Jio BlackRock Trustee Private Limited, to enter the mutual fund sector in India.
This strategic move follows the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) granting in-principle approval for the companies to act as co-sponsors and establish a mutual fund. JFSL has invested a total of Rs. 82.9 crore for a 50% stake in both entities, which includes Rs. 82.5 crore for Jio BlackRock Asset Management and Rs. 40 lakh for Jio BlackRock Trustee.
Indian Railways Renews MoU with Switzerland for Advanced Infrastructure Modernisation
Indian Railways renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Switzerland's Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) to deepen technical collaboration, targeting infrastructure modernisation and operational efficiency. Signed via video conferencing, this agreement marks the continuation of a partnership initiated in 2017, focusing on areas critical to railway technology enhancement.
The MoU renewal received backing from India's Ministry of Railways and Ministry of External Affairs, with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighting the alignment with India's modernisation goals.
Armenia Becomes India's Leading Defence Export Destination
Armenia emerged as India's leading destination for defence exports. In the fiscal year 2023-24 achieved a record in defence exports, totalling Rs. 21,083 crore (approximately $2.63 billion). This marked a 32.5% increase from the previous year. Rising security concerns in Eurasia have prompted Armenia to shift away from its historical reliance on Russian arms, seeking diversification and self-reliance in its defence strategy.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Inaugurates Thottiyar Hydroelectric Scheme
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the 40-megawatt (MW) Thottiyar Hydroelectric scheme in Idukki. According to officials, the speciality of the Thottiyar project is the low quantity of water needed for power generation. The expected annual power generation here is 99 million units. During the trial run, the project generated 173 million units of electricity.
The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) installed the 'Run For River' system for the project. The water from Deviyar, the stream connecting to Periyar, is used for the Thottiyar power project.
