The United States recognised Edmundo Gonzalez, the opposition candidate, as the winner of Venezuela's disputed presidential election, rejecting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's claim of victory.
According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, given the overwhelming evidence, it is quite clear to United States and to the Venezuelan people that Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia won the most votes in Venezuela's July 28 presidential election.

European air carrier Air France-KLM appointed Stefan Gumuseli as the new General Manager for the India-Middle East markets.
Gumuseli will oversee the passenger business for India and the Middle East, which includes a range of diverse and multicultural countries such as India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Egypt as well as additional offline countries.
He will be based at the regional office in Dubai, and Claude Sarre will continue to lead India and the Sub-continent as Country Manager based in New Delhi, ensuring continuity and focused leadership in this key market.
Board of Indian Oil Corporation Approves Construction of Greenfield Terminal at Bihta, Patna
The Board of Indian Oil Corporation accorded stage-1 approval for construction of greenfield terminal at Bihta, Patna, Bihar on Barauni - Kanpur product pipeline (BKPL) and Patna - Motihari - Baitalpur (PMBL) at an estimated cost of Rs. 1698.67 crore as combined re-sitement of existing marketing terminal and pipeline pump station in Patna and for undertaking pre project activities related thereto.
IRDAI Fines HDFC Life Rs. 2 Crore for Violations
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) fined HDFC Life Insurance Rs. 2 crore for breaching regulatory norms. The penalty, detailed in an order dated August 1, 2024, follows an inspection covering the financial years 2017-18 to 2019-20. The penalty must be paid within 45 days, and additional directives were issued to address the violations.
NASA to Launch India's Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla to Space Station
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is poised to make history as the first Indian in space in 40 years.
Shukla was named the 'prime' astronaut for the groundbreaking ISRO-NASA mission 'Axiom Mission-4.
To date, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma remains the sole Indian to have ventured into space, accomplishing this feat during an Indo-Soviet mission in 1984.
ISRO said that Shukla along with Group Captain Prasanth Balakrishnan Nairwere was selected for the Axiom-4 mission, a collaboration between India and the United States.
While Shukla is the primary astronaut, Nair serves as the backup, ready to step in if necessary. The mission underscores India's growing capabilities in space exploration, building on the legacy of Rakesh Sharma, the only Indian to have been in space till now.
Shukla and Nair are among four Indian Air Force officers shortlisted for India's first manned space mission, Gaganyaan, tentatively set for next year.

President Murmu Chairs Two-day Governors' Conference
President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated a two-day conference of Governors at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.
In her opening remarks at the conference, President Murmu said that the agenda for the conference included carefully chosen issues that are crucial in achieving our national goals.
The inaugural session of the conference was also addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who referred to the oath of the Governors and urged them to discharge their constitutional responsibilities of making people aware of social welfare schemes and the development that has taken place during the last decade.
Addressing the conference, PM Narendra Modi urged the Governors to play the role of an effective bridge between the Centre and the State and interact with people and social organisations in a manner to co-opt those underprivileged.
'Tarang Shakti', Largest Multilateral Air Exercise in India, to be Held in 2 Phases in Aug-Sept
Air forces from the US, Germany, France and several other countries will take part in 'Tarang Shakti', the largest multilateral air exercise in India that will showcase the country's defence prowess and provide a platform to participating forces to foster interoperability.
First phase of 'Tarang Shakti' will be held at Sulur in Tamil Nadu from August 6-14, and the second phase from August 29-September 14 at Rajasthan's Jodhpur.
Russia and Israel will not be participating in the exercise. These two countries are India's defence partners.
Fifty-one countries were invited to take part in the exercise and nearly 30 of them will be taking part in it.
The first part will be conducted in Sulur area in south India, and this phase will see four countries , Germany, France, Spain and the UK, with their assets.
Phase two will be held at Jodhpur and that will see participation from Australia, Bangladesh, Greece, Singapore, the UAE and the US with their assets. Along with that there will be 18 countries which will be sending observers and not their air assets.

Centre To Start Cashless Treatment Scheme for Road Crash Victims
The government formulated a scheme to provide cashless treatment to victims of road accidents caused by the use of motor vehicle and initiated implementation on a pilot basis in Chandigarh and Assam, Parliament was informed.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that under the scheme, the eligible victims are administered health benefit packages relating to trauma and polytrauma care at empanelled hospitals under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPM-JAY), up to a maximum of Rs. 1.5 lakh for a maximum period of seven days from the date of accident.
UP Government Removes Rs. 5 lakh Fine for Leaving Medical Seat
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak informed the Legislative Council that the rule of imposing a fine of Rs. 5 lakh for giving up a medical seat in medical education institutions is no longer effective in Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier, for giving up a medical seat, a fine of Rs. 5 lakh had to be paid. He gave this information to the House in response to a question asked by SP's Man Singh Yadav during the Question Hour.
India Ranks 39th in the Travel and Tourism Development Index 2024 (3)
The World Economic Forum (WEF) released its Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) for 2024, offering a comprehensive evaluation of India's standing in the global tourism landscape. This index is a crucial benchmark for assessing the competitiveness and sustainability of tourism sectors worldwide.
India has secured the 39th position among 119 countries in the 2024 TTDI. This ranking reflects India's overall performance across various indicators that contribute to a robust and sustainable tourism sector.
The United States topped the index with a score of 5.24, followed by Spain with a score of 5.18.
Supreme Court Bats for Separate Debts Recovery Tribunal for Jammu & Kashmir
The Supreme Court asked the Central government to initiate steps to set up a Debts Recovery Tribunal (DRT) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Currently, the DRT at Chandigarh serves Jammu & Kashmir.
A Bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta why the government was setting up DRT benches in all States if approaching Chandigarh DRT virtually was a feasible remedy for those in the region.
The Court highlighted the unique topography of Jammu & Kashmir, and stated that it requires a DRT bench.
