Elon Musk Reclaims Title of World's Richest Person
Elon Musk has yet again claimed his position as the world's richest person after beating the CEO of the French luxury brand Louis Vuitton Bernard Arnault, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Musk's net worth was about USD 192 billion, with Arnault's USD 187 billion.
Index data showed behind Musk and Arnault are Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates at USD 144 billion and USD 125 billion, respectively.
The index is a daily ranking of the world's wealthiest people. Details about the calculations are provided in the net worth analysis on each billionaire's profile page. The figures are updated at the close of every trading day in New York.
Musk and Arnault have been neck-and-neck on the list of the richest people.
Bengaluru-based e-commerce firm Meesho emerged as the world's fastest shopping app to cross 500 million cumulative downloads across Google Play and iOS App Store combined, reaching this milestone in six years, according to data.ai (formerly App Annie), the leading mobile data analytics provider.
More than half of these downloads (274 million) came in 2022, with value-seeking consumers across India flocking to the SoftBank-backed e-commerce platform. Meesho competes with players such as Walmart-owned Flipkart, Amazon and Reliance's JioMart.
The entry into the 500 million club came on the back of strong value propositions and unique tech innovations. At just 13.6 MB, Meesho's Android app is the lightest e-commerce app in India on Play Store. This makes it compatible with low-end smartphones and ensures a seamless shopping experience even in areas with low internet bandwidth.
TCS, Reliance, Jio Top Best Indian Brands 2023 Ranking
Technology giant TCS and India's most valuable company Reliance Industries topped the list of the country's most valuable brands, according to Interbrand, the renowned global brand consultancy. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) topped the 2023 50 Most Valuable Indian Brands list with a brand value of Rs. 1.09 lakh crore.
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd is at No.2 spot with a brand value of Rs. 65,320 crore. His group's telecom and digital unit Jio is also in the top 5 with a brand value of Rs. 49,027 crore.
IT company Infosys is at No.3 with a brand value of Rs 53,323 crore.
The top three brands alone account for a staggering 46 per cent of the total value of the top ten brands.

India's junior men's hockey team maintained its continental supremacy as it beat arch-rivals Pakistan 2-1 to win the Junior Asia Cup, held in Salalah, Oman, for the fourth time.
India became the most successful team in the history of the tournament. They had also won the title in 2004, 2008 and 2015. Pakistan (1987, 1992, and 1996) won the tournament three times.
The team finished the tournament with an unbeaten record, also qualifying for the Junior World Cup. Hockey India announced a cash award of Rs. 2 lakh each for the players and Rs. 1 lakh each for the support staff.
Ahmednagar Will Now be Called 'Ahilyanagar' in Honour of Maratha Queen
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Ahmednagar city would be renamed Ahilyanagar after the Maratha warrior queen Ahilyabai Holkar, a development that came on the 298th birth anniversary of the 18th century ruler of Malwa's Holkar dynasty.
This decision was taken by the state government.
This is the third city in Maharashtra to be renamed in a year, this February (2023), the state government formally approved a proposal to rename Aurangabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv.
Located in western Maharashtra, Ahmednagar was named after Ahmad Nizam Shah I, the founder of the Nizam Shahi dynasty. The city has been a part of various kingdoms — including the Rashtrakutas, the Western Chalukyas, the Delhi Sultanate and the Deccan Sultanate.
The demand to change the name of Ahmednagar after Ahilyabai was started by BJP leader and MLC Gopichand Padalkar.
India, Nepal Ink Several Pacts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to take bilateral ties with Nepal to "Himalayan heights" while announcing a fertiliser plant in Nepal, a second intra-country petroleum pipeline, conclusion of a revised trade and transit agreement, fresh joint hydropower projects and a new long-term power trading agreement that will enable India import from Nepal 10,000 MW of power in the next 10 years.
Along with visiting Nepal Prime Minister Pushp Kumar Dahal 'Prachanda', PM Modi also launched several projects through joint inauguration and presided over the exchange of several more MoUs and agreements. Prachanda called the fresh initiatives as path-breaking, which will provide fresh momentum to the ties. He also welcomed the Indian initiative to enable Nepal to export power to Bangladesh.
Third India, Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue in New Delhi
The 3rd India-Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue was held in New Delhi. Senior officials from both sides and Services concerned with maritime affairs participated in the Dialogue. The two sides discussed ways to sustain a secure maritime environment conducive for inclusive growth. They also reviewed maritime cooperation initiatives and avenues of reinforcing international and regional mechanisms for comprehensive maritime security.
The second India-Vietnam Maritime Security Dialogue was to be held in virtual format in April 2021 after the first round was held in Hanoi in March 2019.
Rajiv Singh is New Manipur DGP
Senior IPS officer Rajiv Singh was appointed the new Director General of Police of Manipur. Singh replaced P. Doungel.
Singh, who was working as an inspector general with the CRPF, was sent to Manipur as per an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Singh, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Tripura cadre, was sent to Manipur on inter-cadre deputation for three years.

World Bicycle Day was first marked on June 3, 2018, when the United Nations first adopted a resolution during the 72nd Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City in April. The declaration was adopted by more than 193 member states that encouraged them to include bicycles in regional, international, and subnational development programmes and policies.
CM Siddaramaiah Announces Roll-out of Five Poll Guarantees in Karnataka
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the cabinet has decided to implement the five guarantees, which were promised by Congress before the Assembly elections were conducted in the state.
These guarantees will be implemented without any discrimination of caste or religion, the chief minister added. He also stated that these guarantees were discussed thoroughly by the cabinet, following which they decided to implement in the current financial year.
The five guarantees that the Siddaramaiah government has promised are - 200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti), - Rs. 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family (Gruha Lakshmi), 10 kg of rice free to every member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya), Rs. 3,000 every month for unemployed graduate youth and Rs. 1,500 for unemployed diploma holders (both in the age group of 18-25) for two years (Yuva Nidhi) and free travel for women in public transport buses (Gruha Shakti).
AIIMS Nagpur is the First AIIMS to Receive NABH Accreditation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated AIIMS Nagpur for becoming the first AIIMS to receive the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation. The Prime Minister said that AIIMS Nagpur has set a benchmark in delivering quality healthcare services.
In October 2015 the AIIMS at Nagpur was approved by the cabinet at a cost of Rs. 1,577 crore. Construction work on the permanent campus started in September 2017. Meanwhile, AIIMS Nagpur has commenced the academic session 2018-19 from temporary campus at Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur.
IIT-Kharagpur Partners HCLTech for Collaboration in Petroleum Engineering
IIT-Kharagpur inked an agreement with HCLTech for collaboration in the field of petroleum engineering and earth sciences.
HCLTech and IIT-Kharagpur will jointly develop innovative and sustainable solutions to address critical challenges of the petroleum industry, including reduction of carbon footprint, and provide significant sustainable solutions towards net zero.
Under the agreement, HCLTech will provide opportunities to students and research scholars from IIT-Kharagpur to undertake projects and internships at the company, and use state-of-the-art technologies to develop digital solutions in the exploration, drilling and production of hydrocarbons.
Both IIT-Kharagpur and HCLTech will initiate collaboration on programmes of sustainability that includes discussions, podcasts and joint presentations at international fora on transformative initiatives in the oil and gas sector.
Law Commission of India Says Section 124A IPC Should be Retained
The 22nd Law Commission of India headed by former Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Ritu Raj Awasthi recommended that Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which criminalises sedition, should be retained in the statute book with certain changes.
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by the then Chief Justice of India N. V. Ramana had in May 2022, put the provision in abeyance instead of deciding on its validity.
This was after the Central government told the Court that it will re-examine and reconsider whether Section 124A needs to be retained.
Importantly, the Commission further recommended that the scheme of punishment provided under the Section be amended.
Currently, it provides for life imprisonment or imprisonment up to 3 years.
The Commission suggested that the jail term of 3 years be enhanced to 7 years.
