China Rejects US Hacking Report

China rejected a U.S. government report that accuses Beijing of stepping up efforts to steal technology ahead of a meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping. 
The Commerce Ministry dismissed the U.S. Trade Representative's report as new unwarranted accusations and said that Washington was wrecking economic relations.

EU and UK Agree on Draft Brexit Plan

The European Union and Britain agreed a draft declaration on their post-Brexit relations that sets out an ambitious, broad, deep and flexible partnership.
The two sides have also agreed a draft deal extending the transition period by one or two years beyond the end of 2020, a final sticking point of the divorce deal.

Request Look-out Notices against Defaulters

To check wilful defaulters and fraudsters from fleeing the country, the government has now authorised CEOs of public sector banks (PSBs) to make request for issuance of look-out circulars (LOCs) against suspects.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) recently made changes in the circular by including CEOs of PSBs in the list of officials who can make request for issuance of LOCs to the ministry.

Wipro and Adani Ports to Be Dropped from Sensex

 IT major Wipro and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zones Ltd. will be dropped from the Sensex, effective December 24.
In their places, HCL Technologies and Bajaj Finance will enter the index.
Besides, Power Finance Corporation will move out from the BSE 100 index, while Edelweiss Financial Services will be included in the index.
Bharti Infratel, Lupin and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation will be excluded from the Sensex 50 index and these firms will be replaced by Bajaj Finserv, Britannia Industries and JSW Steel.

High Spirit to Set Up Two Plants

High Spirit Commercial Ventures, the fourth largest luggage bag and backpack player in India in terms of revenue after VIP Industries, Samsonite and Safari, has announced plans to set up two bag manufacturing facilities in Bihar and Gujarat or Maharashtra with investment of Rs. 35 crore.
A big facility will be set up in Patna where 2 million backpacks we will manufactured annually. This facility will be operational by March 2019.
A manufacturing facility for hard luggage bags will either come up in Bhiwandi near Mumbai or in Gujarat.

Corridor to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur

India and Pakistan will build a corridor on their respective sides to let Sikh pilgrims visit the iconic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur on the banks of the river Ravi in the neighbouring country.
The plan to build a corridor on the Indian side leading to the border near the gurdwara was among a slew of proposals cleared during a Cabinet meeting to mark Guru Nanak's 550th birth anniversary in 2019.

Polluting Units Sealed

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has sealed 124 illegal commercial units, which stored tar oil, in Ashoka Park, near Karol Bagh on the orders of the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority. The units were being illegally operated out of a residential area in violation of the provision of the Delhi Master Plan 2021.

Jute Packaging Mandatory for All Food Grains

The government approved a proposal making jute packaging mandatory for all food grains. The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by the Prime Minister. The jute sector in India employs approximately 3.7 lakh workers directly. 

IIMC Granted Deemed Varsity Status

The HRD Ministry has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) to grant it deemed university status.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) had in August recommended the HRD Ministry to grant deemed university status to the IIMC.
The institute, one of the prestigious journalism schools in the country which functions under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, offers postgraduate diploma courses in journalism, advertising and public relations. The deemed university status will enable the institute to grant degrees instead of diplomas.
