XAT 2016 Analysis

Xavier’s Aptitude Test (XAT) was conducted on January 3, 2016.

The exam was divided into two parts. First part had 3 sections, namely, Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. The time allotted for these three sections was 170 minutes. The second part consisted of General Knowledge and Essay Writing. Time allotted for these sections was 35 minutes.

Another major highlight of the section was negative marks for un-attempted questions. For every question beyond 13 un-attempted questions, there was a negative mark of 0.05.

Verbal and Logical Ability Analysis:

The overall difficulty level of the section was from Moderate to Difficult. The questions needed to be read carefully so as to understand what is being asked. Options elimination was the best move for candidates. Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning questions formed the major chunk of the section. Some of the questions were tricky.

An overall attempt of 15-18 questions should be considered as a good attempt.

Decision Making and Logical Reasoning Analysis:

Overall difficulty level of the section was moderate to difficult. The Decision making questions were of moderate level. There was no long passage in this section. This saved time for the candidates. Analytical Reasoning questions were of moderate level, wherein one could solve at least 3 of the 5 questions easily.

An overall attempt of 11-14 questions should be considered as a good attempt.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation Analysis:

Overall difficulty level of the section was moderate to difficult. Questions in this section were conceptual and time required for solving these was on a higher side. The questions were from Arithmetic, Algebra and Number Systems. In DI, there were 7 questions, divided into 2 sets. The difficulty level of these questions was high. A Few questions were ambiguous.

An overall attempt of 11-14 questions should be considered as a good attempt.

General Awareness:

The section consisted of 25 questions. Most of the questions were single statement questions. The questions were direct. Most of these were from events/articles in news in 2015. The overall difficulty level of the section was moderate to difficult.

An overall attempt of 11-14 questions should be considered as a good attempt.
