IIFT, an exam conducted for entrance into Delhi and Kolkata campuses of IIFT, will be conducted on 23rd November this year. The exam is of moderate to difficult level. The questions check the problem solving ability of the candidates. The questions in the paper are too lengthy for one likes.

The pattern of IIFT keeps on changing year after year, with different number of questions and variable marking. But the general sections remain the same; it is just that the sections are rearranged. IIFT-2014 had four sections, namely General Awareness, Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability, Reasoning, Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability.

General Awareness:

This section generally consists of questions from several categories such as sports, economy, corporate, politics, international events, etc. One who reads newspaper and online articles everyday will be able to do very well in this section.

Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability:

The Verbal Ability part is greatly dominated by vocabulary questions and grammar including questions such as: Fill in the Blanks, Analogy, Odd One Out, Idioms, Spellings and Word Formations, Best Replacement of the Underlined Part, Parajumble, Sentence Formation and Select the Correct Sentence. In the Reading Comprehension part, there occur passages which are normally written in an easy language and the questions are direct. The only thing to care about is the length of the passages, as they are pretty long and reading them is time consuming.

 Reasoning:

The section has questions on logical games, analytical reasoning, selection-based problems, puzzles, input-output problems and statement-assumption problems.

Data Interpretation and Quantitative Ability:

Data Interpretation consists of three sets which are very calculation-intensive. The sets range from tabular questions, charts and mixed charts questions.

Quantitative Ability section has questions which are too lengthy. The questions cover topics such as number systems, algebra, arithmetic, geometry and modern mathematics.

Considering the format of the exam (118 questions in 120 minutes) and the level of the exam, it is extremely vital that you practice your problem solving skills and are in the habit of attempting such type of questions. Therefore, attempt several IIFT Mock Tests and improve your chances of cracking the exam.
