Dear Aparna Murugesan,
You didnt mention clearly your methodology of preparation and the sort of problems ur facing while with your practice sessions. Any how i try to give you some tips; section-wise.
Listening: Note taking and organizing or integrating the notes with that of our memory are very important to be accurate in listening module. Identifying chunks that are mostly used by native speakers is also another imporant parameter in expecting expertise in this module. The points must be written one under the other while taking notes of your listening passages.
The listening passages are of two categories. 1.conversations 2. lecturers/talks ; each with a duration of around 4 to 8 minutes. The topics are ususally academic and are easily reconstructed with our memory added to the notes that you have taken.
Reading: You will get minimum 3 passages, sometimes 4th and some more tiems 5th passage also. For every extra passage given , 20 minutes is allotted. Total time is 60, 80. 100 minutes for 3, 4, and 5 passages. There are altogether 9 types of questions for each passage, starting with the main idea of the passages and ending with a summary question.
Writing: It is bifurcated into two categories. 1.Independent task, based on a topic, the candidate need to show the grammatical, logical and semantical approach to convince the reader to accept the opinion stated. 2. Integrated task,.....read a given passage for 3 minutes, take notes; listen a passage for another around 8 minutes, take notes, get a question, integrate both notes, and answer to the question producing atleast 150 words.
Speaking: 6 questions require crisp and clear answer with a beginning, organization and an ending. 2 questions are independent, 4 are integrated.
