| Arif raza asks : Dear tcy online, There was a paragraph in my science book, defining the term `MELTING POINT`,and i have some confusion regarding it,please answer the question after reading the para~~~~ MELTING POINT~ When ice is mixed with pottasium nitrate, it`s melting point decreases to about -3`o celcius. this implies that now ice does not melt at 0`celcius but last longer.this techinque is used by ice-cream vendor`s to retain ice in their trolleys for a longer time and prevent the ice-cream from melting. A similar reduction in the normal melting point of ice is also observed when common salt or ammonium nitrate is added to it. this fact is made use of, for clearing snow from roads and pavements on hill stations during winter. And now my question-- Q-How is it possible that the impurity will help in keeping the ice-cream for longer time,if it also help`s in clearing snow?please explain it briefly... |
