use prime factorisation; for eg. if you want to find lcm of 6 and 8, find the prime factors of each no. 6 = 2*3 8 =2*2*2 = 2^3; now find the highest power of each prime factor present so lcm becomes = 2^3* 3= 24

Let y takes N days to do the work
x takes N/4 days to do the work
according to the condition
N/4=N-27
3/4N=27
N=27x4/3
N=36 days
Time taken by y= 36 days
Time taken by x=36/4=9 days
