Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e. 1st paper consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weight age with objective type questions for B.E/B.Tech courses in offline/online mode and 2nd paper – consisting of Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Drawing for B.Architecture and B. Planning in offline mode. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness.

Scoring and Negative Marking

There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response, one fourth (1/4) of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. No deduction from the total score will, however, be made if no response is indicated for an item in the answer sheet. The candidates appearing for Offline Exam are advised not to attempt such item in the answer sheet if they are not sure of the correct response. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked. All objective type questions are required to be answered on specially designed machine gradable answer sheets. Answers are to be marked using ball point pen (black/blue) only. For the purpose of evaluation, Test Booklet Code as printed in the Answer Sheet on Side-2 will be accepted as final.

Though the online mode was an option this year as well, but a majority of students opted for the conventional pen and paper mode. While the Central Board of Secondary Education had expected 1 lakh students, out of the 11.5 lakh applicants, to opt for the online mode, only 5,000 did so.

Despite the lukewarm response, the board has decided to shun the conventional pen and paper format and go ahead with the online mode in wake of this year’s question paper leak which forced several students to take the exam again. In a circular issued on August 18, the board said, “This year, the CBSE is planning to conduct online exams on a mass scale. Students are advised to acquaint themselves with the new method. An competent agency will be employed to ensure the smooth conduct of the test.”

“Though the number of students who appeared for the online examination was less, but it proved a successful counter to problems like question paper leaks. This year’s exam was like a nightmare where we had to cancel and then re-conduct the examination the same day.

“A majority of students who appear for AIEEE have access to computers in their school or home. They have ample time to get acquainted with the method. We shall be uploading guidelines for the online examination soon,” said a CBSE official in New Delhi.

AIEEE is the admission gateway to various NITS, deemed universities, state owned and private engineering/architecture colleges. The AIEEE conducted in 2011 was delayed by three hours due to a paper leak in Lucknow on May 1. A fresh exam was conducted on May 11 for all those students who were unable to appear earlier.

NTSE has announced the National Talent Search Examination 2012. The purpose of the scheme was to identify talented students and nurture their talent. Talent refers to the potentiality that manifests itself in a high level of performance in one or more specialized areas. The scheme, therefore, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D. level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation. The NCERT conducts the National

Talent Search Examination for students studying in Class VIII only.

Scholarships: On the basis of the examination conducted, 1000 scholarships will be awarded for each group of students appearing for Class VIII examinations. The amount of scholarship will be Rs.500/- per month as per NTS rules.

Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group of Students.

Selection: There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage-I, selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage I will be eligible to appear for Stage II examination conducted by NCERT.

Important Dates: Dates for Submission of Application Form and conduct of examination are given below:

Eligibility: Students of Class VIII studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the respective Class VIII Stage I examination conducted by the States/UTs in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction.

Examination: The pattern of written examination for Class VIII will be as follows:

Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise two parts, namely (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering social sciences, sciences and mathematics.

Stage II examination at the National level will comprise (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT), (b) Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) covering Social Sciences, Sciences and Mathematics.
