Now let us first begin with a sentence.(Sentence is a group of words which make sense.)

1) She is a beautiful girl.
In this sentence ‘beautiful’ is an adjective,

Now see this sentence.

2) She is a girl of great beauty.
In this sentence ‘of great beauty’ is an adjective phrase.(Phrase is a group of words depicting one meaning).

Let us see this sentence.

3) She is a girl who is beautiful.
In this sentence ‘who is beautiful’ is a Clause. (A Clause is a group of words with a subject and a predicate.)

Look at the 3rd sentence carefully. She is a girl can stand alone but who is beautiful cannot stand alone. It needs the support of the first part of the sentence.

Now we shall divide this sentence into 2 parts. She is a girl /who is beautiful. The second part of the sentence needs the support of the first part.

The result is;

She is a girl—Main Clause

Who is beautiful—Subordinate  Clause.

Now this subordinate clause says something more about the noun ‘girl’ in the Main Clause.
A word that says something more about a noun is an Adjective and so a clause that says something more is known as an Adjective Clause.

Some more examples of sentences with this Clause;
a) The man who is fat is my grandfather.
b) Raja likes movies that are directed by Manirathnam.
c) The stone which shines the most is the diamond.

I hope you have tried to understand the concept of the Clause Analysis.

We shall see all the types of Clauses one by one.

Try to analyse the sentences given into Main Clause and Subordinate Clause.

It’s time for your upcoming final exams of CBSE – 2010. You all could be nervous about it. Every student has a different way of studying. Some students may actually do better while listening to music or studying outdoors; others find these environments distracting. Although preparation for the CBSE board exams should begin on the first day of the semester, there are many things students can do, to maximize their final scores:

1. Students should divide their time according to their daily tasks especially when they are preparing for board exams.
2. There should be a break after every 2 hours of studying.
3. There should be refreshments in the breaks they take in their study schedules.
4. Cell phones and other such devices should be turned- off. So that you should not get distracted when you are preparing for CBSE board exams.
5. The student should be out of earshot of any computers, televisions etc.
6. The place to study should be quiet and devoid of any distractions.
7. Every hard or uninteresting subject/topic should be followed by any easy or an interesting subject/topic.
8. Students should avoid doing ‘at stretch’ studies.

So, a planned study time-frame can minimize the stress and feelings of panic that may occur when you only have a few days before the exams.

As we know that CBSE – X exams are approaching, bringing with them the feeling of fear and nervousness. Although the grading system in class X Board – 2010 exams has helped the students a lot to fight this fear, yet the building of pressure in any exam is natural. Some students perform better under stress, while others totter as their poor nerves are stretched to the limit.

Adding to this, are subjects like Chemistry in CBSE exams – 2010, requiring the students to cram the chemical reactions and equations. Fumbling with nomenclature in carbon and its compounds, mugging up the extractions in metals and non–metals is observed in the students to an extreme extent.

To combat these issues and perform well in final board exam and also pre board exams, you should first of all be aware of the marking scheme followed by CBSE in board examination of 2010. This involves 3 very short questions carrying 1 mark each, 2 questions carrying 2 marks each, 2 short questions carrying 3 marks each and 1 question carrying 5 marks. There is no choice except the internal choice in the 5 mark question.

To equip you more on this, let us discuss deeper into a few problem areas in pre board and CBSE – 2010 Final Board examination, as given below

Formulae of chemical compounds

Electron dot structure of chemical compounds

1. Structure of carbon compounds

–This kind of question is generally of 5 marks in your board exam. If you are given the name of an organic compound, let’s say, Hexanol, and then simply split the name of the compound to draw its structure

Hex – an – ol

Hex – C-6

an – Single bond

ol – OH

and then simply draw the structure–

Let us take one more example to make it clearer –Butanoic acid

Again split the name of the compound into parts

But – an – oic acid

But –  C–4

an – Single Bond

oic acid –

O
||
C – OH
and then draw the structure as,

Chemical Compound

Now you can practice with as many numbers of examples you want

Another important thing for CBSE – 2010 exams that how to remember the formulae of chemical compounds:

Topic No. 2: Formulae of chemical compounds

– Never ever learn the formulae of compounds

– This topic is the base of Chemistry and comes across as a cumbersome problem. Maximum Chemistry questions in boards and pre–boards call for the clarity of this concept.

To make it easier for yourself, make a table of the valencies of various positive and negative ions.

This way you would be able to learn the valencies of various ions and then you would never need to learn the formula for any compound. Make the formula by the same general method of criss–cross valency as you did in Class IX.

® Electron dot structure of chemical compounds

For this sure shot question in your CBSE Board exams, you simply need to learn the atomic number of first 20 elements for which you can develop a mnemonics also.

Happy Henry Likes Beer But Could Not Obtain Food

So you can simply learn these by developing your own methodology. Write the electronic configuration for the element, and using its only valence shell electrons, draw the structure for it. Never write the inner shell electrons while drawing the structure.

e.g. Fluorine – Atomic number – 9

Electronic Configuration – 2, 7

We wish all of you to do well in your CBSE – 2010 Board exam and Pre–Board exams.

Trigonometry – the branch of mathematics, dealing with six T–ratios is interesting. While it is a game for some to play with, it is head–scratching for others. But a little care can ward off all the unfounded fears of students, is opined by me.
In CBSE – 2010 Class X examination, trigonometry carries a weightage of 12 marks out of 80. It includes one question of 1 mark, one question of 2 marks, one question of 3 marks and 1 question of 6 marks.
The important topics in CBSE board examinations which attract the attention of the examiner for setting of questions are:–
1.    relation among six ratios;
2.    values of T–ratios of standard angles;
3.    complementary angle relations;
4.    trigonometrical identities; and
5.    heights and distances.
Taking topic wise, the questions asked from this section are very simple. Generally students memorize only one relation viz. (Sin)2 A + (Cos)2 A = 1 leaving the other two, which are equally important for solving a good number of questions. For CBSE – 2010 exams, students should practice some questions involving the usage of these two relations, which will certainly help to build confidence in them.
One question is based on the value of T–ratios of standard angle & complementary angle relations. Students get confused in memorizing complementary angle relations. An easy way is:
“Attach ‘Co’ to T–ratios without ‘Co’ & remove ‘Co’ from T–ratios with ‘Co’.”
e.g. Sin(90 – A) = Cosine A.
Cosine (90 – A) = Sin A

To solve such questions locate the pairs of complementary angle T–ratios. For example, for, 10 degree, 80 degree, 20 degree, 70 degree, 25 degree, 65 degree, etc. Change one of the T–ratios in terms of complementary angle. The final result thus obtained, will automatically cancel out, leaving the question in the most simplified form.

Here 70 degree, 20 degree; 36 degree, 54 degree; 43 degree, 47 degree; 10 degree, 80degree; 40degree, 50 degree make complementary pairs. Take note that only one angle is to be changed and not both. This method will work to solve the sum without any difficulty.
For trigonometrical identities, two types of questions are asked; one involving T–ratios other than Sin A + Cos A ; and the other involving questions with T–ratios within under–roots. For the first type of questions change T–ratios to Sin A + Cos A and solve them. For the second type of questions, rationalise the denominator, which will further simplify the question.
The most challenging portion for students in CBSE exams are the heights & distances question. To solve this question, the student should draw the diagram correctly keeping in view the various parameters given in the question. Most of the times, it is easy to find height/distance by using T–ratio “Cot A”. It makes the question simple and error–free. Secondly, equate the quantified relations to get results.

For questions involving reflection of cloud in lake water, keep in mind that image formed in water will be as far behind as the distance of cloud from lake water.

No student in CBSE – 2010 exams, aiming to score 80 marks can afford to ignore trigonometry. Anyways, it is not difficult to attain expertise if the questions are tried carefully keeping in mind the above suggestive steps.

LUDHIANA, Dec. 1 – Over 150 students from Ludhiana and its satellite towns like Khanna, Phillaur and Jagraon took Mock CBSE Mathematics examination for Class X here yesterday. This mock exercise was conducted by city’s ‘STEPS’, the schools division of Top Careers & You (TCY), at its Sarabha Nagar centre premises.

Keeping in view an ‘overwhelming’ response to this initiative by this premier education institution of Northern India, TCY has decided to conduct ten such mock exercises before the final board examination in February next.

The response was so huge to this mock test that some of the students could not have on-the-spot registrations and had to go back due to the ‘limited’ seats availability.

Five top schools of the city like Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Tagore Public School, BCM Arya Model School, Bhartiya Vidya Mandir School and Kundan Vidya Mandir School took part in this annual exercise by ‘STEPS’.

One of the salient features of this event is a provision for a threadbare online analysis of students’ performance by TCYonline.com, the online initiative of TCY. This would be followed by classroom analysis on December 7th.

“The students would be easily able to analyse their strengths and weaknesses following this detailed analysis by our experts. Not only that, they would know their rankings too. The idea is to help the students work on their grey areas,” according to ‘STEPS’ Sarabha Nagar Centre Head, Mr. Viji Raj.

It is worth noting that TCYonline.com is today the No. 1 Testing platform in the country today with over 2.6 lakh students’ registrations on its web-portal. Hundreds of free practice tests are available on the website www.tcyonline.com for the benefit of not only CBSE student but also for other school competitions and Olympiads being held in the country from time to time.

“This mock test would immensely help the first-timers for this board examination in helping them familiarize with the real exam situation. The main idea is shoot away their exam blues and prepare them well,” Mr. Viji Raj emphasized.

It may be recalled that ‘STEPS’ has been organizing Mock CBSE test annually for the students of class X in association with bodies such as Rotary Club and Bansi Lal Memorial Trust. Last year over 600 students from Ludhiana and its surrounding areas participated in the mock test.

MUMBAI, Nov. 26 – The schools division of TCYonline.com, ‘STEPS’, today launched an online test series in Mathematics and Science for the Maharashtra State Board SSC Examination to be conducted in March next year. The whole package, comprising 27 chapter-wise tests and 10 full-length mock tests, is valued at just Rs.600.

The students can access the program from www.steps.tcyonline.com.

This ‘exhaustive’ and ‘scientifically designed’ test series is meant for the students of Class X who want to give the final ‘Midas’s touch’ to their preparation. The tests are structured in such a way that they take the students systematically through the whole syllabus and help them remove all chinks in their preparation, before exposing them to the mock board exams.

The launch of this online test series for Maharashtra students follows the ‘stupendous’ success of such programs for the CBSE and ICSE boards in Northern India.

“The mock SSC exam at the end of the series would help the students gauge their performance before the actual exam. They would be girded up to face any surprise element,” said TCYonline.com CEO, Mr. Kamal Wadhera.

“Since regular books do not cater to the exam, our expertise in preparing simulated tests has proved handy for our experts who have been working on this project for the last one year,” avers Mr. Wadhera.

Benefits for students:

* Tried & tested simulated approach
* Downloadable tests,  detailed solutions
* Chapter-wise preparation, systematic revision
* Speed building,  time management
* Self-marking assistance system

Following Delhi and Maharashtra, the company is targeting West Bengal. “Our objective is to spread our programs throughout the country. Shortly you would see such online test series for all State education boards,” added the optimistic CEO.

This website for the students, www.tcyonline.com has found great favour with some schools, colleges and universities in the country. Of late, some academic institutions have shown keen interest in the company’s elite testing platform.

TCYonline.com’s exhaustive and free material catering to all the major national and international exams coupled with technology-enabled tools is not only becoming a rage amongst students but is also catching the eye of educational institutions and other companies.

NEW DELHI, Nov. 26 – Recession or no recession, the modern Indian student always aspires for more – more knowledge, more money and more challenge. The just concluded CAT and the very thought of fat MBA pay packages spur him on to perform better each passing day.

Be it upcoming SNAP, FMS and XAT, or for that matter any college/school or competitive exam, the student’s Net gains have made him more confident after he has learnt how to wriggle out of difficult situations. Online testing being his new success mantra, all he has to do is benchmark his performance against the best in India and abroad, and raise his bar.

Today, we see a study shift from chalk-and-board to computers with the greater impact of education websites like TCYonline.com which have brought a revolution of sorts in the test prep sector. A smart student is supplementing his classroom education with online practice tests, which are taking precedence over traditional ‘bookish’ learning.

It is worth noting that enjoying the privilege of being India’s Number One Testing Platform, www.tcyonline.com has today over 2.70 lakh students in the age group of 13–32 years on its portal taking advantage of its various free resources — online tests ranging from CBSE to MBA to GRE and Medical/Engineering exams.

Talking of the CBSE, scores of practice tests are available on the website for the benefit of the school students. As a gesture of goodwill, like previous years, TCYonline.com will also make available number of pre board tests for the February 2009 exam.

Student benchmarking being the hallmark of this web-portal, its recently launched two testing tools – the ‘Challenge Zone’ and the ‘Test Generator’ – are making good rounds among the academic community.

Being the free website for the students, the portal has also found great favour with some schools, colleges and universities in the country. Of late, some academic institutions have shown keen interest in TCYonline.com’s elite testing platform.

TCYonline.com’s exhaustive and free material catering to all the major national and international exams coupled with technology-enabled tools is not only becoming a rage amongst students but is also catching the eye of educational institutions and other companies.

A huge student base and separate exam categories on the website provide a perfect platform for educational institutions to showcase their offerings to prospective students. With continuous product innovation and technological upgradation taking place every second, this platform offers a host of opportunities to education institutions in India and abroad, virtually on a platter.

While it is heartening to note that TCYonline.com is crossing the five-lakh registration mark during the next few months, the web-portal gives education bodies an opportunity to describe their programs, organize mock tests and virtual education fairs. Moreover, the students can gain by asking questions and interacting with the university representatives through an online chat facility.

TCYonline.com has in a way squeezed the whole world to such an extent that a now a student sitting in any part of the world, say in the US or Canada, can prepare for any international entrance exam like GRE or GMAT or TOEFL. Practice tests for all these entrance exams are available on the website free of cost.

All said and done, TCYonline.com has become the ‘testopedia’ of the modern student today. He can’t think of his life without it.
